Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin engaged in an in-depth conversation Monday morning with ACE Senior Vice President Terry Hartle about her new book, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism, and her work chronicling the lives and careers of other presidents.
But Hartle ended the session on a light note. He took Goodwin by surprise when he recounted her story, taken from her personal encounters and interviews with President Johnson and noted in her first book, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream, about receiving not one but 12 electric toothbrushes as presents from Johnson.
With the assistance of our colleagues at the American Dental Education Association and their dental school members, Hartle told Goodwin that ACE wished to present her with a memento of her appearance at our 96th Annual Meeting: a brand new, state-of-the-art electric toothbrush.
