As the fields of science, engineering, and medicine become more diverse and gender gaps begin to close, challenges in workplace climate for women also have increased.

A new report by The National Academies, Sexual Harassment of Women: Climate, Culture, and Consequences in Academic Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, explores the direct impacts of sexual harassment in work and learning spaces, including pushing viable talent out and keeping the field closed and unwelcoming to women. The report offers several recommendations to effect change by encouraging institutions to move beyond legal compliance and address culture and climate; improve transparency and accountability; and strive for strong and diverse leadership

By emphasizing the importance of moving beyond sexual harassment training, the report encourages targeted and intentional institutional approaches, highlighting cultural climate shift strategies that address sexual harassment and set a standard for civility and inclusion for women.
